Our Mission and Core Functions

The Central California Children's Institute (CCCI) at California State University, Fresno was established in 2000 by the College of Health and Human Services. The Institute's mission is to promote research, policies and practices that support the well-being of children and families, using a regional children's agenda as the guiding framework.

The Institute's core functions are:

1) Regional planning and mobilization

2) Applied research

3) Interdisciplinary seminars and training

4) Community education and outreach

The Institute's priorities are guided by the following principles:

1) We support local stakeholders in the implementation and evaluation of a regional children's agenda.

2) We prepare practitioners and parents to implement research-based programs and practices.

3) We advocate for policies that have potential to improve the health and well-being of children and families.

4) We engage in meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration with key stakeholders from the university and local community.

Leadership:

The work of the Institute is led by Dr. Nicole J. Smith (Associate Professor, Department of Kinesiology, College of Health and Human Services).
